Arrival

DAY 1

You will fly into Kilimanjaro (JRO) Airport near Arusha, Tanzania. After picking up your bags, our Above Safaris staff will meet you and escort you to your hotel in Arusha. You are free to relax at the hotel before dinner and overnight.

Waterfall Hike

DAY 2

You will start your journey with a hike to a beautiful waterfall in the foothills of Mt. Meru. The hike begins in town, but on your way up you'll get a first-hand view of village life and will experience Mt. Meru towering over you. Once you arrive at the waterfall, you'll have a chance to go for a swim and eat lunch before continuing your hike back to town.

Arusha National Park

DAY 3

The second day of your journey will begin on the ground. At the foot of mighty Mt. Meru, you will be introduced to Tanzania's national parks by way of Arusha National Park. Often overlooked, Arusha National Park offers an amazing diversity of habitats including dense forests and rolling savannas. Your first experience will be walking among the wildlife, safely, of course, followed by an adventure into the nearly impenetrable forests up the base of the mountain.

Tarangire National Park

DAY 4

In the morning you will travel to one of Tanzania's most spectacular parks, Tarangire. Often compared to Serengeti, Tarangire boasts wide open savanna which is a sanctuary for wildlife. It is guaranteed to be a highlight of your adventure.

Lake Manyara National Park

DAY 5

In the morning, you will travel 30 minutes to Lake Manyara National Park at the base of the Rift Valley escarpment. You will experience this park and the surrounding area in a way which is rarely seen by tourists - by bicycle. Optimal for active travelers, this 2.5-3 hour ride will take you down the Rift Valley Wall into the village of Mtu Wa Mbu, through the forest to the shore of the great soda lake.

Travel to Serengeti National Park

DAY 6

In the morning you will continue on to Serengeti National Park getting a rare opportunity to see rural Tanzania on the way. Hailed as the pivotal safari location and home to the annual migration of over a million wildebeest, Serengeti National Park offers sights of unimaginable beauty. Spanning over 5700 square miles, you will see more than mere glimpses of Tanzania's wildlife, but instead will experience the daily lives of the wildlife.

Serengeti National Park

DAY 7

Your second day in Serengeti will give you an opportunity to delve deeper into the expansive game reserve seeing areas which are rarely seen by the average safari-goers. But, you aren't the average safari-goer, are you? Instead you will experience areas off the beaten path and intimate wildlife moments rarely seen.

Travel to Ngorongoro Conservation Area

DAY 8

In the morning you will depart from Serengeti on your way to another dense wildlife area - Ngorongoro Conservation Area. On the way you will get your final opportunity to say goodbye to the wildlife of Serengeti on a short game drive leaving the park. After departing you will get another opportunity to see rural Tanzania including the villages which dot the countryside. Once you arrive at the conservation area, you will spend the night above once again, sleeping at the top of the crater nearly 6,000 feet (1,850 meters) above sea level at it's highest point. Once at your campsite/lodge, you will relax for the evening and prepare for your final descent into the crater and your final safari experience.

Ngorongoro Conservation Area

DAY 9

In the morning you will descend below the crater rim into the wildlife microcosm which is Ngorongoro Crater - home to most of the animal species found throughout the country. With the crater walls serving as a natural enclosure for the conservation area's animals, leaving them relatively unchanged for hundreds of years, you have the chance to spot all your favorites. After a day in the park you will return to Arusha where you'll be taken to the airport for your flight home.
